2. Issue Overview

Montgomery County Schools Police Department, Montgomery County High School, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, requested official manufacturer safety recommendations concerning daily walkthroughs through TruePort for a student with an external pacemaker and defibrillator.

The inquiry was raised by Sgt. Danielle Tufono to ensure appropriate school security procedures and student safety.

3. Official Safety Guidelines

As communicated by Legal (Andrea Dulberg), the following guidance is based on the TruePort User Manual:

  1. Potential Medical Device Impact: TruePort sensors may affect implanted or external electronic medical devices, although the likelihood of interference is low.
  2. Required Signage: Screening areas must display signage stating: “Electronic Security System in Use.”
  3. Medical Manufacturer Recommendations: Schools should follow recommendations provided by the individual's medical personnel and the medical device manufacturer regarding exposure to electromagnetic fields.
  4. Alternative Screening Procedure: If a student or other individual has medical concerns about walking through TruePort, an alternative screening method must be offered.
4. Recommended Procedure for Schools
  • Inform relevant school security personnel of the applicable safety guidance.
  • Ensure the required signage is displayed in the screening area.
  • Follow medical advice and the medical device manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Offer an alternative screening method when an individual raises medical concerns about passing through TruePort.
  • Contact Xonar Support or the appropriate internal team if further clarification is required.

Important: Do not independently assure individuals that passage through the system is risk-free. Refer to the official product documentation and the medical device manufacturer's guidance for individual circumstances.

Resolution Summary: Official TruePort safety guidance was communicated to the school, including potential medical device interference, required signage, medical manufacturer recommendations, and the provision of alternative screening for individuals with medical concerns.
